Mar. 23—HIGH POINT — A small fire Friday morning forced a temporary shutdown in production and an evacuation of a Thomas Built Buses plant.
No one was injured in the fire, which was reported just before 7:30 a.m. at the manufacturing operation in the 1400 block of Courtesy Road, the High Point Fire Department reported. The fire was at a bus chassis work station, Deputy Chief Brian Evans said.
"The initial report is that some welding ignited a bus seat," he said.
A Thomas Built Buses public information officer said the small fire was contained before firefighters arrived.
The fire wasn't extensive but generated a significant amount of smoke, Deputy Chief Jayson Valade said.
Valade told The High Point Enterprise that the company's evacuation of the work area went smoothly.
"There was no panic and no problems," he said.
