That Fed will remain in focus tomorrow as it opens its annual meeting in Jackson Hole, Wy., though its significance is less clear than in years past because of the notable absence of Chairman Ben Bernanke. Vice Chair Janet Yellen is scheduled to make an appearance on Friday.
Companies reporting quarterly results this morning include Lowe's, Target, Staples, Toll Brothers, American Eagle Outfitters, and J.M. Smucker, PetSmart, and Madison Square Garden. Hewlett-Packard, Limited Brands, Synopsis, and Hain Celestial will report earnings after the close.
