Fayette County Job Fair set Wednesday

Apr. 17—The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce and Fayette County Parks will present the 2024 Fayette County Job Fair on Wednesday, April 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Fayette County Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building in Fayetteville.

Open to all businesses in Fayette and surrounding counties, the free job fair aims to help match employees and employers in a variety of fields, organizers say. Business registration is still being accepted Wednesday morning.

"Last year was the first year (for the fair)," said Tim Naylor, the chamber of commerce's executive assistant. "We had about 30 businesses sign up, and about 175 people actually came and looked for jobs."

Naylor said several businesses indicated afterwards they had hired some employees as a result of the fair. "A few of the businesses reached out and said they hired 2-3 people that day," he said. "I remember one guy walking out, it stuck with me, he said he didn't realize there were that many jobs, and he left there with three job offers."

Businesses on hand will represent a wide range of fields, including resorts, coal mining, construction, medicine and others, Naylor stressed. "So, there is a little bit of everything for everybody. If one or two people leave out of there with a job, then I'll think it was worth it."

"We're looking forward to having participating businesses that may or not necessarily be Fayette County businesses ... helping them to find some qualified employees, and we're looking forward to seeing seeing the community come out and hopefully find a new career path that they're looking for or just some new employment," said Becky Sullivan, director of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce: "It could be seasonal, it could be something just for the summer, but there are opportunities out there and we hope our community comes out and takes advantage of it."
