Favourable Signals For Ecovyst: Numerous Insiders Acquired Stock

In This Article:

Generally, when a single insider buys stock, it is usually not a big deal. However, when several insiders are buying, like in the case of Ecovyst Inc. (NYSE:ECVT), it sends a favourable message to the company's shareholders.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Ecovyst

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by VP & CFO Michael Feehan for US$101k worth of shares, at about US$6.28 per share. That means that even when the share price was higher than US$6.00 (the recent price), an insider wanted to purchase shares. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. To us, it's very important to consider the price insiders pay for shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.

Ecovyst insiders may have bought shares in the last year, but they didn't sell any. The chart below shows insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Does Ecovyst Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. It appears that Ecovyst insiders own 2.3% of the company, worth about US$15m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
