Falcon Oil & Gas, in partnership with Tamboran B2, has announced the spudding of the Shenandoah S2-4H (SS4H) well in the Beetaloo Sub-basin in the Northern Territory, Australia.

This is the second well in the Shenandoah South Pilot Project, targeting the Amungee Member B-shale.

The SS4H well will be drilled from the same pad as the Shenandoah S2-2H ST1 sidetrack well, using the H&P super-spec FlexRig Flex 3 Rig.

The well is estimated to reach a total measured depth of 6,300m, including a horizontal section of approximately 3,000m.

Following the drilling of the SS4H well, Liberty Energy will complete the stimulation of both the SS2H ST1 and SS4H wells, with 34 and 60 stages planned, respectively.

Stimulation is expected to commence in Q1 2025, with initial production flow rates expected within the same period.

Falcon CEO Philip O’Quigley said: “The spudding of the SS4H horizontal well is an exciting next step in the development of the Beetaloo Sub-basin and we will look forward to updating the market as operations progress.”

Falcon Australia will maintain its 5% participating interest in the Shenandoah South Pilot Project. The company holds approximately 18,619km² of gross acreage in the Beetaloo Sub-basin, with Tamboran B2 as the joint venture (JV) operator.

Tamboran Resources is the largest acreage holder in the Beetaloo Basin, with around 1.9 million net prospective acres. This includes properties held through JVs with Santos, Falcon Oil & Gas and Daly Waters Energy.

The Beetaloo Sub-basin, located 600km south of Darwin, is a Proterozoic and Cambrian tight oil and gas basin. Its proximity to infrastructure including a highway, pipeline and railway offers transport options to the Australian market and beyond via Darwin's liquefied natural gas capacity.
