President Donald Trump's nominee to head the Federal Aviation Administration, Stephen M. Dickson, is a veteran of the Air Force, Delta Air Lines—and Georgia State University College of Law.
Stephen M. Dickson managed to fit in graduating magna cum laude from the Atlanta law school into his long aviation career, according to a White House announcement. Dickson is not a member of the State Bar of Georgia. He could not be reached.
Dickson served for 27 years at Delta, where he rose to be senior vice president-flight operations.
Gregory Riggs, a former Delta general counsel, told the Daily Report that he didn't know Dickson well personally but added that he "is very highly respected for his management skills, sound judgment and knowledge of aviation—qualities that will serve him well in the very demanding job of FAA administrator. I think he will do an outstanding job."
Delta released a statement calling Dickson "an admired and impactful leader who will serve the FAA and our country well. Captain Dickson, an Air Force Academy graduate and former F-15 fighter pilot, has the proven record and expertise to lead the efforts to improve our nation's aviation system and ensure the safety and efficiency of our skies. We have no doubt that he will lead the FAA with the integrity and leadership that he has demonstrated throughout his career."
