Engines to rev down Main Street next weekend

Mar. 12—Engines will soon roar with the upcoming car cruise down Main Street Duncan near the end of March.

Patrons will enjoy the first car cruise of the season from 6-9:30 p.m Friday, March 24 in downtown Duncan.

MSD Executive Director Billie Strutton said the Main Street organization in Duncan hosts several car cruises through the year in order raise funds to assist downtown business owners.

"(Funds help) with exterior paint, lighting, signage and other building repairs through its façade grant program," she said. "The first cruise is always in March, in conjunction with Stephens County's largest swap meet — The Duncan Swap Meet."

According to Strutton, Main Street Duncan, Inc. and Duncan Swap Meet event directors coordinate these together to bring car enthusiasts two events in one location.

"Tailgate parties are welcome," she said. "Bring the whole family and join in on the action as cars, trucks and motorcycles of all makes, models and years cruise the historic downtown."

To register for the car cruise, bring proof of liability insurance and a valid driver's license to the northwest parking lot of 10th and Main Street. Registration is $20 for the first vehicle and then $10 for each additional vehicle.

The cruise route will run along 10th Street to 7th Street on Main and Walnut, according to Strutton.

"Only street legal and registered vehicles will be allowed to cruise," she said. "No burnouts will be offered at this cruise."
