The Emmi Group has agreed to acquire Hochstrasser, a Switzerland-based coffee roaster that supplies the restaurant, café and hotel industry.
The acquisition, which is subject to the approval of competition authorities, will consolidate Emmi's coffee expertise and reinforce its Emmi Caffè Latte brand.
Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Hochstrasser, located in Lucerne, Switzerland, is known for its traditional drum-roasting method and sources its coffee beans globally. The company's product range also includes teas, punch and chocolate.
Hochstrasser also provides a suite of services, such as coffee machine concepts, café barista training and quality control, primarily catering to the hospitality industry.
The acquisition is expected to enhance Emmi Group’s coffee segment and support Hochstrasser in strengthening its market position within the foodservice industry.
Post-acquisition, Hochstrasser will maintain its operational independence.
The Emmi Group has a previous 20-year partnership with Hochstrasser, contributing significantly to the barista quality of the Emmi Caffè Latte brand.
Hochstrasser, with heritage dating back to 1852, will continue its operations with the existing management team, including board members René Vesti and Gery Camenzind, and managing director Kevin Heer.
The acquisition will allow Hochstrasser to further develop its market position within the food industry with its Hochstrasser and Don George brands.
Emmi Group executive vice-president for Switzerland Marc Heim said: “With the acquisition of the renowned coffee roaster Hochstrasser in Lucerne, we are elevating our coffee expertise to further strengthen our iconic and the innovative Emmi Caffè Latte brand.
“This will bring together strong expertise in producing the highest quality premium coffee, freshly roasted in Lucerne, with the best Swiss milk.”
