El Comite in Longmont names new executive director

Nov. 14—After months of searching, Longmont nonprofit El Comite has hired Lisa Moreno as its new executive director. Moreno will start Nov. 29.

Moreno, a Longmont resident, holds degrees from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Affairs and the University of Alaska Anchorage. She has previously worked for the Boulder County Community Services Department and was vice president of programs at Community Foundation Boulder County.

"The board of directors is excited to welcome (Moreno) to El Comite," wrote Becky Birkelo, El Comite board president, in a release. "(She) will help us advance our mission and lead this critically important, trusted community organization in its strategic goals, as well as initiate a capital campaign."

During her career, Moreno has led philanthropic responses to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Cal-Wood and Lefthand Canyon fires and the Boulder King Soopers shooting. She was also involved in the passage of the first Violence Against Women Act in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Moreno previously served on the board of the Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network. She currently serves on the boards for the Humane Society of Boulder Valley and the League of Women Voters of Boulder County.
