French civil engineering company Eiffage Génie Civil, along with its division Ævia, is supporting Bordeaux Métropole in the new 'François Mitterrand' footbridge construction in France, set to enhance connectivity between Bègles and Bouliac.

The cantilevered structure is fixed to the deck and measures more than 650m in length and 3m in width, featuring three belvederes for panoramic views of the Île d'Arcins.

The project, which necessitates the existing structure reinforcement, will incorporate carbon fabric and additional prestressing.

This footbridge is designed with sustainability in mind, utilising prestressed ultra-high-performance fibre-reinforced concrete slabs to minimise the environmental impact.

The consortium, which includes Eiffage Génie Civil, Ævia, France-based MOG ARCHITECTES, and Setec, a French multidisciplinary engineering company, was awarded the design-build contract by the local and regional authorities.

In a related development, Eiffage Route, another subsidiary of construction company Eiffage, has designed a 2.6km cycling path in Cherbourg, repurposing a disused railway line.

The Voie du Homet now connects the Cherbourg-en-Cotentin station with the Arsenal, featuring the environmentally-friendly Bioklair pavement, specially designed for soft mobility and made with a plant-based binder.

The project has also utilised LuminoKrom photoluminescent paint, which used stored daylight for night-time visibility, without the need for electricity.

A new parking area has also been constructed near the Cherbourg station to support this urban development initiative.

The project is owned by the Communauté Urbaine de Cherbourg - Communauté d'agglomération du Cotentin, with project management provided by Cabinet Bourgois, civil engineering firms VAUBAN GC, and AER.

In January this year, Eiffage Aménagement, a European company engaged in urban development, obtained approval to construct a health-oriented business hub within Saint-Apollinaire’s municipality in Côte d’Or (21), Northern France.
