EDF Renewables North America has commenced commercial operations for the 200MW Huck Finn Solar project in Missouri, US.

Developed for Ameren Missouri, a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation, the project was acquired through a build-transfer agreement with EDF Renewables.

The solar project at its full capacity is expected to power more than 37,000 homes. It also bolsters the local power grid and advances the shift away from non-renewable energy sources.

EDF Renewables regional project development manager Jesse Laniak said: “We are thrilled to announce the successful launch of the Huck Finn Solar project, which is now fully operational and contributing to Ameren Missouri’s solar generation portfolio.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to the communities in Audrain and Ralls Counties whose support has been instrumental in transforming this project into a model of community-driven, sustainable development.”

The Huck Finn solar project is part of Ameren Missouri's plan to add 2.8GW of clean renewable energy by 2030 and is the ninth solar facility developed or put into operation since 2019.

The project created more than 500 jobs at peak construction and is set to generate over $14m in local community revenue across Audrain and Ralls Counties during its operational phase.

Ameren Missouri chairman and president Mark Birk said: “We are transforming the energy grid to enhance reliability and resiliency for customers, as well as provide cleaner energy to our communities.

“Customers depend on Ameren Missouri to continue investing in new sources of generation to ensure reliability and serve customers for decades to come.”

In a related development, EDF Renewables commenced operations at the Morris Ridge solar project in New York last month.

Located in Mount Morris, the 229MW solar project is essential in helping New York achieve its goal of sourcing 70% of its electricity from renewable energy by 2030.
