Ed Stofcheck Jr. will take over for bookkeeper, auditor Diane Mault

The Marion Community Foundation hired a full-time finance manager to oversee finance, funds management and business operations, as well as office and facilities management.

Ed Stofcheck Jr. will report to Julie Prettyman, , president and CEO, and work with the  Board of Directors, staff and volunteer committees to develop and implement the financial strategies and goals, according to Jody Demo-Hodgins, board chair.

“The finance manager is essential to the financial health, stability, compliance and growth of the foundation,” Prettyman said. “We welcome Ed to the staff and appreciate his financial expertise and knowledge of the Marion community.”

Stofcheck previously served nearly a decade as the financial secretary at Emanuel Lutheran Church and, before that, managed Stofcheck Ambulance Service for 27 years. Most recently, he worked at Center Street Community Health Center, as well as Center Street Market. He has been a volunteer, former board president and member of the Marion Area Humane Society.

Stofcheck holds a degree from Ohio University and earned his certification as a human resources specialist from Michigan State University. He and his husband, Matt, both are graduates of Elgin High School, reside in Marion, and “usually have way too many dogs,” he said.

“I am excited for this awesome opportunity," Stofcheck said. "I have been involved with Marion Community Foundation for many years, but from the other side. The work here is impactful and meaningful, which makes it a rewarding place to be.”

Stofcheck has large shoes to fill as he takes over for long-time bookkeeper and internal auditor Diane Mault, who has been with Marion Community Foundation since its inception in 1998. Mault served in a part-time, contracted role, in addition to operating her own bookkeeping and tax preparation service for the past 50 years, which she will continue to focus on, along with her husband, Richard.

'Sense of sadness I end this journey'

“Diane has been with the foundation the longest of anyone around the office,” said Prettyman. “We have very little turnover - the average is 10-plus years – so this is a big change for us. We wish Diane all the very best as she continues her first love, bookkeeping.”

Mault describes the time as “one of the most enjoyable times of my life. Not only has it been a great learning experience, but working with, and meeting, so many dedicated people has been extremely rewarding.

“It is with a sense of sadness that I end this journey,” she said, “but, I am happy that the Foundation will be in good and qualified hands with Ed and the Marion Community Foundation leadership.”
