New eastside shopping plaza moving forward, set to be completed late summer
May 24—Construction on a new shopping plaza on Washington's east side is on schedule.
In mid-March, officials broke ground on Summit Plaza, located on East National Highway and Eastside Park Road.
The 5,800 square foot building is the first of three possible buildings on the site being developed for VSL Holdings, owned by Dr. Vasdev Lohano and Dr. Suresh Lohano.
"The slab is down. It is going as planned. We are anticipating three to four months for it to get substantially done," said Suresh Lohano. "This building is all retail."
The owners have one tenant set for the building and are still working on another.
"We have one tenant at this point, Jimmy Johns," said Lohano. "We are in discussions with some other potential businesses. We can't talk about those yet."
With the building set to be completed by the end of summer, that should put the opening of the sandwich shop for sometime in the early fall.
VSL Holdings already has plans before the city to construct at least one and likely two new buildings on the location.
"We have two more buildings planned on that same lot and some of those will be offices," said Lohano.
The plans before the city have the second building being roughly the same size as the first. The third building, if constructed, could be as much at 1,000 sqare feet larger.
Discussions with the city on the project began about 18 months ago.
"Absolutely, we are feeling good about the progress. We have a lot of support from the community," said Lohano.
