Here’s when the new downtown Wausau Jimmy John’s restaurant aims to open

WAUSAU − A new Jimmy John's restaurant is aiming to open downtown in early 2024.

It will be the third location in the Wausau area, said Brad Pachefsky, who owns the franchises with partner Brian Macak. The other restaurants are located at 2205 Stewart Ave. in Wausau and 3910 Schofield Ave. in Weston.

"We are in the very early stages; we just finalized the architectural plans," Pachesfsky said. "We are very excited."

This will be Pachefsky and Macak's seventh Jimmy John's location.

The new Jimmy John's will be located at 300 N. Third St., Suite 113, in Washington Square in the Third Street Lifestyle Center. It will offer pick-ups, deliveries and in-store dining.

"We have been looking for a downtown location since we opened our Stewart Avenue restaurant in 2009," Pachefsky said. "There is a lot of foot traffic and there is a lot of stuff going on downtown. There will be new apartments and a new children's museum. It's exactly where we want to be."

Pachefsky said they hope to open the new location in January or February, but there are always setbacks and delays when opening a new restaurant.

Jimmy John’s will be one of three new businesses to open in the Third Street Lifestyle Center, managed by Compass Properties, the Wausau River District announced in a news release earlier this month.

A new coffee shop has started to remodel the former Ugly Mug location, also in Washington Square, and will announce their plans in October, and Forward Beverage Co., a nonalcoholic cocktail company, opened its taproom this month just across the street at 303 N. Third St., the release said.
