DoorDash, the largest food delivery service platform in the United States, made some major noise in the news on Thursday as the company announced they were officially teaming up with Klarna, a "buy now, pay later" service provider.
It just might not have been the type of noise that either company was expecting when the news was initially shared on social media.
Because since the announcement of this new deal with Klarna, the post on X has gone viral, drawing over 13.3 million views and way too many jokes to count.
Essentially, customers in desire of a food delivery from DoorDash can now choose to pay for said food delivery "in interest-free installments or deferred options aligned with payday schedules."
This is a trend that's been appearing as an available payment option for a number of items, but predominantly—at least thus far—has been for items on the expensive side, like computers, televisions, watches, sneakers, and other pricey accessories.
So, now, just imagine what the public reaction might be to an announcement like this where a "buy now, pay later" option is being made available through DoorDash for something like a Chicken Chalupa Supreme and Baja Blast Gelato order from Taco Bell.
Yes, the jokes poured in like a raging river and probably won't be ending any time soon given the skyrocketing number of views that seem to eclipse by roughly half a million upon each refresh of the page.
Here's a glimpse of what the @MorePerfectUnion account on X has been dealing with throughout the course of the day.
Kicking things off with a Don Draper "now listen" type of pitch from Mad Men feels like an ideal place to start.
And the whole thing really just snowballed from there.
While there appeared to be some who did express sincere concern over the concept as a whole, it was pretty difficult to naviagte in what's felt like a never-ending comedy hour.
A social media post like this is generally just so ripe to go viral for all the wrong reasons, it's kind of like tossing up the ball to a wide-open LeBron James to slam it home for a crowd-pleasing windmill dunk.
