This week's Zillow listing is a Stockton home with a little bit of family history.

This 1,920-square-foot home was built in 1903. It's a remodeled home with five bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are two homes on the lot, one is an accessory dwelling unit (ADU). Both homes have their own addresses. If you're looking for a cute new spot where you can purchase two homes for the price of $635,000, then this one might be for you.

According to the California Department of Housing and Community Development, "ADUs are an affordable type of home to construct in California because they do not require paying for land, major new infrastructure, structured parking, or elevators."

Phillip Herrera, owner and consultant of Herrera & Company is now selling his parents property on Zillow. The Stockton native said his parents originally purchased the home in the early 70s for jut $27,000. A home that they rented for the past decades to family members and friends at a low price.

But the home is now on the market and it's for sale.

His father who is around 86-years old has bee dealing with poor health. His mother is 84-years-old and they have decided to "liquidate all of their real estate holdings so that they could retire," Herrera said.

While Herrera and his family never lived in the home he did grew up in the neighborhood, Herrera said.

When Herrera was deciding whether to sell the home or purchase it from his parents to renovate it and sell it, one discussion with a real estate agent who suggested to paint their "ready to fall down" garage upset him, Herrera said.

"This is my chance to give back to South Stockton and make my parents proud," Herrera said.

He tore down the garage and turned it into an AUD with the City of Stockton pre-approved AUD plan, he said.

"For an owner that's going to occupy it, I want them to have a story about how the ADU fills a real need for them. I want the family to already have somebody that they want to put back there," Herrera said. "But I'd like to see someone who's going to take the story of what my mom and dad believe is going to happen there and make it happen."
