Nov. 5—Fiber Internet will continue to make its way from city limits to rural areas across Stephens County.
Dobson Fiber representatives Steve Miles and Ali Clark addressed community members and guests about an array of services offered to Southwest Oklahoma through both business and residential areas last month at a local civic club meeting.
With headquarters in Oklahoma City, Clark said Dobson Fiber started out in western Oklahoma in 1936 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma.
According to Clark, Dobson Fiber is a third generation-owned company.
She noted several of the Dobson Fiber trucks are working around town lately in Duncan, Marlow, Lawton and other areas.
Clark talked a little about the company as a whole. She said Dobson Fiber offers a variety of products for customers — business, community and wholesale — and it's been about two and a half years since they began with the residential side.
According to Clark, they also began announcing other towns across the state and into Arkansas.
She said one thing she loves about Dobson Fiber is the commitment to the rural areas they serve and to bring the latest technology to them.
According to Clark, Dobson Fiber is certified as part of the Affordable Connectivity Program, a Federal Government program which gives eligible and low-income houses credit for internet connectivity.
She said in Oklahoma, the Federal Government recognizes the tribal land status.
"If you live in this area, and you qualify in the low-income, eligibility requirements, you can get up to $75 credit on your bill," she said.
Clark said Dobson Fiber is a 100% fiber network, and offers flexible plans.
According to Clark, Dobson Fiber will continue to look at areas for expansion.
She broke down pricing, stating its $60 a month for 100 MB (megabytes) and the most popular plan is $80 a month for one GIG (gigabyte) for high user internet.
Other high usage plans include the five and 10 GIG plans, as well as business plans.
"We encourage you to pick the plan that you feel most meets your internet needs," she said. "You can always (go) up or down based on your usage."
According to Clark, during installation, Dobson Fiber helps set everything up and gets it connected to the internet.
Clark said they provide local support through their 24-7 technical center and customer service line.
