WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WJBF) – The Development Authority of Burke County (DABC) has launched the Speed to Recovery Grant Program as a way to help small businesses impacted by Hurricane Helene.
In a press release on Thursday, Oct. 10, DABC said they are offering up to $10,000 in grants as part of their commitment to business retention. The goal is to help businesses in the county offset “critical needs not covered by insurance such as, inventory replenishment, equipment replacement, employee retention, and operational costs.”
According to DABC, businesses must meet the eligibility criteria to qualify:

Be a resident of Burke County

Be a registered business in the state of Georgia and Burke County or a city within.

Demonstrate direct impact from Hurricane Helene.

Provide proof of business operations before the hurricane and estimated recovery needs.
“We understand the immense challenges our local businesses are facing in the wake of Hurricane Helene, and we are dedicated to helping them get back on their feet as quickly as possible,” said Austin Stacy, executive director of the Development Authority of Burke County. “This grant program is designed to provide immediate financial assistance to help small businesses rebuild and restore their operations, which are vital to the economic health of our communities within the county.”
Grants will be rewarded on a first come, first serve basis until the funds have been allocated. Applications are open and business owners are encouraged to apply early.
