Even though retailers opening on Thanksgiving Day appear to be largely a thing of the past, holiday shoppers will get an extra few days to buy presents this year because Thanksgiving falls on Nov. 23, the second-earliest date the holiday can occur.

Few of the big retailers will be open on Thanksgiving Day, following the lead of Walmart, which gave up the practice in 2019, even before the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even opening at the stroke of midnight for Black Friday has faded. But many still offer extended hours for the year's biggest shopping day.
