Hello Kitty, cute stationary and Japanese snacks are just some of the items that Stocktonians can find at Sherwood Place.
The family-owned Japanese retailer Daiso, a "one-stop-shop" with beauty, household items and stationery opened its first-ever store in Stockton in December.
This is also Daiso’s first store in the Central Valley.
“With our extensive range of products spanning various categories, including Japanese inspired home decor, stationery, food, and more, we have become synonymous with accessible and innovative offerings,” Daiso states on their website.
Daiso's grand opening was Dec. 30 at 5308 Pacific Ave. Suite 1050 in Stockton. The store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Before the opening of the Stockton location, many had to travel to Elk Grove, roughly 35 miles from the new location on Pacific Avenue. Other Daiso locations are in Sacramento, the Bay Area and Southern California.
According to Daiso’s website, their mission is to “create joy through a fun shopping experience with unique products at an extraordinary value.”
Daiso is currently hiring for their Stockton location. Anyone interested in becoming a sales associate can apply online.
This is not the first time that Brixton Capital, the private real estate firm that acquired Sherwood Place (formerly Sherwood Mall), has brought new retailers to Stockton.
“We believe Daiso is a good complement to the current mix of retailers at Sherwood Place,” Justin Long, vice president of development at Brixton Capital wrote in an email. “With Daiso, the Sherwood Place customer will have access to an affordable lifestyle brand with a wide variety of merchandise categories, from stationery to food to pet supplies to home décor and more.”
Business is booming at Sherwood Place
Sherwood Place ended the year with 23 total retail businesses including the out-of-parcel ones at Sherwood Place, Long stated.
In March, Stockton's first Sprouts Farmers Market opened at Sherwood Place. Brixton Capital also added Stockton’s second Burlington to their lineup of retailers.
"We welcomed five new businesses to Sherwood Place during 2023, increasing the retail convenience and options for local residents," Long stated.
The stores are Sprouts Farmers Market, Daiso, Cozy Fox, Outfitters and Hat Wear, Long stated.
"We expect to add a limited number of retail partners at Sherwood Place in 2024 as we wrap our final phase of lease up," Long wrote.
The shopping center transitioned from its former indoor mall floor plan to an outdoor-only shopping center. The interior mall permanently closed in August 2022, The Record reported in October 2022.
