Die-hard football fans may support their team at home and abroad no matter the price, but new data now shows which country offers the best value for the money spent to see a game.
Germany boasts the best monetary value, with average ticket prices of $35.35 and a number two ranking among global leagues, according to a report by Berlin-based travel search website GoEuro and app Onefootball.
Spain came in second, with a $78 ticket price and topping league rankings, followed by Portugal, England and Argentina. Other popular countries such as Brazil ranked tenth while the Netherlands came in fifteenth.

Japan and the United States offered the least value. Average ticket prices in the former were $32.50 but the country ranked 24th among global leagues.
The report ranked leagues based on the quality of football, using a combination of rankings from global and European governing bodies as well as third-party databases.
In terms of countries with the most expensive ticket price, England ranked first at $82.60, followed by Spain at $78.09 and Italy at $76.98. Mexico and South Africa enjoyed the cheapest prices at just $11.72 and $9.59 respectively.
Prices were calculated using an average of first division game tickets for multiple stadiums and seat types across a standard soccer season.
Away costs
As fans who travel the length and breadth of their countries to follow their teams know, support does not come cheap. You need to sometimes take planes, trains, or automobiles to get to the stadium. Lunch is typically an underwhelming burger bought from a rickety van (at least in England). Then there is the obligatory pint (or three).

The report also analyzed the most expensive nations to attend an away match based on bus, train, and air transport as well as one-night accommodation, food, and beverages during matches.
An away match costs on average $332 in England, $334 in the United States, $207 in Spain, $250 in Italy and $266 in Switzerland.
"It costs almost the same to travel to Germany to see a Bundesliga match as it does to stay in the U.K. and attend a Premier League game," Naren Shaam, CEO of GoEuro said.
The cheapest country to watch an away match was Chile at $91.
