Comptroller distributes $1.1 billion in monthly sales tax revenue, including $4.4 million in Rockwall County

Jan. 23—AUSTIN — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced earlier this month that he is distributing to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for January — 3.3 percent more than in January of last year. These allocations are based on sales made in November by businesses that report tax monthly.

In Rockwall County, Royse City will receive $711,452.00 — up 13.4% from 2023 for January. Royse City December allocation was $675,149. The City took in a total of about $7.9 year for 2023, compared to $7.1 million in 2022 — a 11.7% increase.

Elsewhere, other county municipalities will receive approximately $3.7 million for January.

The lion's share of the distributions go to Rockwall at a shade under $3.1 million, followed by Fate with $299,000. Royse City, Rockwall and Fate's numbers all represented positive retail economic growth.

In 2023, Rockwall's share of the sales tax pie was just under $3 million (an increase of 3%) and Fate experienced a whopping 76.9% increase from the pervious January of $169,000.

Among others getting rebate checks, Heath will receive $260,000 (a 29.5 drop from 2023) and McLendon-Chisholm saw a sizable percentage drop from $155,938.15 last January to $69,636.37 — a decrease of 55.3%
