Lubbock saw a boom of business news from restaurants to retail in January. Here's a look at what opened, closed, and confirmed upcoming spots in the Hub City.
In January 2023, there were 16 business announcements. The new year saw nearly twice as much, with more than 25 announcements.
Here's which Lubbock businesses opened or moved in January 2024
Aerial Atmosphere
What: A dance studio that offers a variety of classes moved to South Lubbock.
When: Jan. 22.
Where: 4321 Woodrow Road, #17.
Amerigy Energy
What: With the Lubbock energy market opening to retail competition, several new businesses popped up. Amerigy is an energy brokerage firm.
When: Jan. 5.
Where: 2321 50th St., Suite A.
Bandana & Boujee
What: A new pet accessories shop opened, offering dog and cat treats, bandanas, and other items.
When: Jan. 6.
Where: 1808 Clovis Road.
Carpet Tech

What: Carpet Tech officially opened its new 42,000 sq. ft. restoration and rug facility, which boasts boasts cutting-edge technology and advanced processes.

Covenant Medical Group Family Healthcare Clinic
Covenant Health Group opened it's newest Family Healthcare Clinic on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 10507 Quaker Ave.
What: The facility in South Lubbock will offer lab testing, online scheduling, and same-day appointment availability.
What: Fuddruckers Restaurant, known as the home of the "World's Greatest Burger," opened its new location this month after closing the former location on Slide Road last month.
What: The Asian restaurant, which has a location in Midland, opened and quickly became popular for offering samples and serving large portions.

Lone Star Sports Collectibles & Coins
What: This business moved from 50th Street and into the store on 34th Street.
When: Jan. 12.
Where: 4823 34th St.
Los Victor's Mexican Food

What: A Mexican restaurant, which touts California-style food, opened a Lubbock location. The company has several locations across New Mexico, California and Wisconsin.
What: The newest boutique party, paper goods and gift store is operated by JD Harvey Designs.
When: Jan. 13.
Where: 6701 Aberdeen Ave., Suite 10.
Roadies
Roadies, a cash checking and convenience store, will open at 2143 50th St., Suite B, on Jan. 22, 2024.
What: This locally-owned convenience store offers cash checking, as well as food and drinks.
When: Jan. 22.

Sweet Pup Co.

What: Bernadette Hernandez, owner of Sweet Pup Co., actually started the business around 12 years ago with homemade dog treats. Now, her father, who is a U.S. Army veteran, makes the treats and she offers a variety of bandanas and other items in their first storefront.
What: The second Lubbock location of the Mexican restaurant opened.
When: Jan. 22.
Where: The Shops at 114th and Slide Road.
Wrecked Burgers & Brews
What: This burger joint offers Fried Mac N' Cheese bites, pun-named burgers and signature drinks. It was formerly Local Bar and Grill.
When: Jan. 31.
Where: 2420 Broadway St.
Here's which businesses closed in January 2024
Catching Whimsy
What: The shop with a variety of merchandise closed in early January. The owners announced they wanted to pursue different opportunities through their other businesses - Website Runners and Texas Regional Notary.
When: Early January.
Where: 3407 98th St. Suite 400.
Hub City Burger Bar
What: A burger restaurant, which opened in September, suddenly closed without explanation.
When: Jan. 11.
Where: 3711 19th St.
Tom & Bingo's BBQ

What: The barbecue restaurant had been in operation since 1952, and was known for its "old-school style" barbecue. The owners announced the pending closure on Jan. 12.
When: Jan. 20.
Where: 3006 34th St. The mobile food truck is also listed for sale.
What: The pie shop known for a different take on pies closed, though a paper posted on the door stated the business is looking for a new location. People can watch for updates on Instagram.
When: Mid-January.
Where: 4406 114th St., Suite 200.
Here's which businesses, restaurants confirmed or denied Lubbock locations in January 2024
Chicken Salad Chick
Chicken Salad Chick is opening its fourth Jacksonville-area restaurant Dec. 6, 2023 at 415 Durbin Pavilion Drive in The Pavilion at Durbin Park in Saint Johns.
Announced: Chicken Salad Chick announced that the same franchisee for Amarillo signed an agreement to bring the chicken salad restaurant to Lubbock. Two locations are expected to open within the next 5 years.
Announced: The longtime Lubbock children's boutique will move from its location at 26th and Canton, into The Shops at 114 Slide. The move may happen in March.
Soft Surroundings
Announced closure: The shop at 8201 Quaker Ave., Unit 116, known for clothes, jewelry, soft bedding and beauty will close around Feb. 29.
