Colin Kaepernick has decided to sit this election out.
The San Francisco 49ers quarterback told reporters he will not be voting for anyone. In remarks reported by USA Today, when he was asked whether he had voted early or whether he was planning on voting at all, Kaepernick responded to both questions with a simple "no."
On Tuesday afternoon, the athlete also retweeted a post titled "Don't Vote Against Your Consciousness" on his Twitter account. His decision isn’t too surprising, as Kaepernick has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the presidential candidates.
“It was embarrassing to watch that these are our two candidates. Both are proven liars and it almost seems like they’re trying to debate who’s less racist," he said following the first presidential debate.
In August, Kaepernick refused to stand for the national anthem in protest of discrimination against African-Americans in the U.S. He now takes a knee during the anthem at games in continued protest. Despite facing criticism, Kaepernick has not lost any endorsement deals. He also had the highest-selling jersey among his teammates in September.
