ROCKFORD — A coffee shop billing itself as a place where you can finally have a cup of joe "with your messy-hair-don't-care self" is slated to open in the city’s downtown this spring.
Inzombia Coffee will be located at 306 E. State St., the longtime home of Uptown Barber Shop, according to business owner Pete Dufoe.
“I’m hoping to open before May 1. That’s my goal,” Dufoe said. “But, we’re definitely going to open before the start of City Market.”
In addition to coffee and espresso drinks, Inzombia Coffee will offer New York-style bagels and cream cheese, pastries and doughnuts.

Tentative business hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m.
“We are not fancy or flashy, and we are definitely not pretentious,” according to a post on Inzombia’s Facebook page. “We promise to be humble, respectful and genuine. This is a coffee shop for anyone and everyone.”
As for the origin of the shop's name?
"People can relate to (feeling like) zombies in the morning," Dufoe said. "People can relate to insomnia. People can relate to all that."
Dufoe, 33, originally intended to open a coffee shop and bar in Loves Park but said those plans fell through, which he now considers to be a blessing.
“Rockford has so much to offer, and I think the city’s downtown is its heart,” he said. “That’s why I can’t pass up this opportunity to open a business.”
