Coca-Cola FEMSA is investing 22.41bn pesos ($45m) in its production plant in Calle Blancos in Costa Rica.

The project will increase the site's production capacity, improve warehousing at the facility and "boost exports" to markets including Nicaragua and Panama, the Mexico-based bottler said in a statement.

Coca-Cola FEMSA will add a new production line at the site to “optimise operational capacity”.

The company said the new phase of the plant is set to open in September.

Jerri Liu, the chief operating officer for Coca-Cola FEMSA in South Central America, said: “This new investment is a significant demonstration of the commitment and confidence we have in the country, strengthening our production and distribution capacity, in addition to driving job creation and socioeconomic development for the population.”

The investment follows “record” capital expenditure at Coca-Cola FEMSA in 2024, CEO Ian Craig said in February when the company reported its annual results. The spending was primarily directed at expanding production and distribution infrastructure.

During 2024, Coca-Cola FEMSA's capex surged 37.5% to 29.41bn pesos.

Coca-Cola FEMSA, the world’s largest Coca-Cola franchise bottler by sales volume, operates 56 manufacturing plants and 249 distribution centres, with a portfolio of 134 brands.

In 2024, the company reported a 4.4% increase in volume to 4,224.6-million-unit cases, benefiting from growth in most of its territories.

During the 12 months, Coca-Cola FEMSA's revenues grew 14.2% to 279.79bn pesos.

Operating income increased 17.4% to 40.14bn pesos, with an operating margin increase of 40 basis points to 14.3%.
