Clean Technology is the Winner of the Swiss W.A. De Vigier Foundation Awards for this Year

Among the winners are four Swiss Cleantech startups who have developed alternatives to petroleum, new fuel cells, better building insulation and new ways of recycling construction waste.

SOLOTHURN, SWITZERLAND / ACCESSWIRE / June 11, 2020 / The W.A. de Vigier Award, the most renowned prize for young entrepreneurs in Switzerland, announced the five innovative Swiss startups winners of the W.A de Vigier awards 2020, in a ceremony held at the studios of CNN Money Switzerland on June 11, 2020.

Since its establishment the W.A. de Vigier Foundation aimed to support the best startups of Switzerland. In 2020 four of the five best startups come from the Cleantech industry, which reflects the high percentage of submissions by this sector this year. These companies have the potential to help us rebuild our economy in a sustainable and resilient way. From 192 submitted projects, the jury picked their five winners today and awarded each of them with a prize of CHF 100,000. Over the past 31 years, the foundation has distributed over CHF 11 million in seed money across all sectors. The results are over 90 flourishing startups, successful IPOs, multiple company exits and above all, many newly created jobs.

The Cleantech winners of this year's prize have developed alternatives to petroleum, new fuel cells, better building insulation and new ways of recycling construction waste. The fifth start-up has developed microcapsules for dosing medicines with Swiss precision.

"While we struggle with a global pandemic, it's evident that a much bigger challenge lays ahead of us with the consequences of climate change. Our generation has urgent environmental problems to solve and this is reflected in the particularly high number of Cleantech startups running for and winning our awards this year. These Cleantech companies have the potential to rebuild our economy in a more environmentally friendly way after Covid-19", says Regula Buob, Managing Director of the W.A. de Vigier Foundation. "The drive and resilience these young leaders show is incredible. Nothing and nobody can stop them - even in challenging times like these", continues Buob.

Due to Covid-19, the award ceremony took place at the studios of CNN Money Switzerland instead of celebrating at the W.A. de Vigier Sommerhaus in Solothurn. "Our foundation supports young entrepreneurs who develop innovations with high value for our society. We are extremely proud to present this year's winners and Top 10 live to an even larger audience than usual", says Daniel Borer, President of the W.A. de Vigier Foundation Board.
