Citadel Said to Hire Hayday From Hedge Fund Farallon Capital

(Bloomberg) -- Citadel, the hedge fund founded by billionaire Ken Griffin, has hired Gregory Hayday from Farallon Capital Management, people familiar with the matter said.

London-based Hayday has been with Farallon Capital since 2013 and is a managing director, according to the firm’s website. He previously worked at Blackstone Inc. and Morgan Stanley.

Hayday and a representative for Citadel declined to comment, while a spokesperson for Farallon Capital didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

Top hedge fund managers like Citadel have been digging deeper into their wallets to attract top talent from the big banks as well as rival investment firms. Elliott Investment Management partner Nabeel Bhanji joined Citadel in one of the industry’s top defections last year. Citadel also hired three London-based portfolio managers for its international equities unit including Vadim Tsipenyuk.

Citadel has prolonged its non-compete agreements for some portfolio managers to 21 months, underscoring the unrelenting hiring war among multistrategy hedge funds, Bloomberg News reported earlier this month. Citadel’s latest extension is longer than rivals’ policies, which are closer to 12 months, people familiar with hiring practices have said.
