Sep. 23—A Tennessee man is hoping his song-writing hobby can help Lane Kiffin grow the Ole Miss football program.
Chris Steward, 53, owns a realty company outside of Nashville.
He attended Ole Miss and before that grew up in Indianola. His father would take him and his brothers to games.
"We saw Herschel Walker and a lot of games growing up. I've always been a fan," Steward said.
Steward wrote "Lane Train" in February, not long after the Rebels went 10-3 with a Sugar Bowl appearance in Kiffin's second season.
No. 16 in this week's AP Top 25, Ole Miss is 18-8 under Kiffin. The Rebels have won 14 of their last 17 games including 11-straight at home as they welcome Tulsa for a 3 p.m. kickoff Saturday.
Steward sent his song to Ole Miss athletics director Keith Carter who responded favorably and mentioned the possibility of at some point using the song as part of the in-stadium experience.
"A lot of the football stuff they do is hip-hop. Maybe I need to hip-hop it up a little bit," Steward said. "I wrote the song to try and talk to people who are thinking about going to Ole Miss ... to try and promote Ole Miss."
