China reports 901 new COVID cases for Sept 22 vs 775 a day earlier

SHANGHAI, Sept 23 (Reuters) - China reported 901 new COVID-19 infections on Sept. 22, of which 175 were symptomatic and 726 were asymptomatic, the National Health Commission said on Friday.

That is compared with 775 new cases a day earlier – 165 symptomatic and 610 asymptomatic infections, which China counts separately.

There were no new deaths, same as a day earlier, keeping the nation's fatalities at 5,226.

As of Sept. 22, mainland China had confirmed 248,984 cases with symptoms.

China's capital Beijing reported two local symptomatic cases on Sept. 22, both found in quarantined areas, which broke a streak of six days of no cases, according to local government data.

Financial hub Shanghai found one local asymptomatic case on Thursday, compared with no local cases the previous day, local government data showed. (Reporting by Shanghai newsroom; Writing by Bernard Orr; Editing by Christian Schmollinger)
