SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND--(Marketwired - June 3, 2014) - A football-themed charity which aims to support food banks in the UK is hitting the streets of Sheffield on Wednesday 11th June.
Footy for Food (FFF) will be hosted at Fargate and local people are being urged to show their support by turning up and playing football in exchange for food donations which will be given to local foodbanks.
As a part of a 10-city, 10-day UK tour, Footy for Food aims to tackle hunger by shutting down the city centres, setting up a football game, and inviting the public to come and play. All participants have to do is bring their kit and food for the foodbank to join in.
Richard Loat, founder and CEO of FFF, said, "Footy for Food is all about communities, volunteers and individuals coming together to help support foodbanks through football. Foodbanks are a vital service but they need all the support they can get and that's where FFF is trying to help.
"During this World Cup year, we want to highlight that football is just one way people can help those around them. We can't wait to visit Sheffield as we know how passionate the city is about football and we want to get as many people as possible at the event!"
Richard previous successfully ran Five-Hole for Food, a hockey-themed tour which took place in 2013 in Richard's native Canada. The tour over the last three years has raised the equivalent of over 250,000 kilograms of food for local foodbanks and Richard is hoping to the UK tour will be even more successful.
Richard added, "Five-Hole for Food was tremendous fun and we were delighted which how much we managed to raise. We hope that the UK tour will be even more successful, as the nation is gripped by World Cup fever."
The event on 11th June will be held at Fargate in the city centre between 15:00 and 19:00.
