MEXICO CITY, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Cargo processing at the Bridge of the Americas on the U.S.-Mexico border between El Paso, Texas, and the Mexican city of Juarez is expected to resume in two to three days, Mexico said on Sunday, after the U.S. announced a pause beginning Monday.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Friday said a "temporary suspension" of cargo processing starting Monday would allow its officers at the site to assist Border Patrol in processing migrants arriving outside official crossings.
Mexico's foreign ministry said in a statement it was monitoring the situation after the "unilateral" decision taken by the U.S.
CBP did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the expected length of the suspension.
Apprehensions and expulsions of migrants in the El Paso sector reached a nearly four-month high over the past week, according to data from the city. (Reporting by Kylie Madry; Additional reporting by Hannah Lang, editing by Deepa Babington)
