Careers in Motion job fair Saturday to explore careers involving operation of vehicles

ADRIAN — A career exploration and job fair will take place Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Lenawee Intermediate School District Tech Center.

The inaugural Careers in Motion event is designed to connect the community with careers and job openings involving the operation of vehicles, heavy machinery and other moving equipment, a news release said. It will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tech Center, 1372 N. Main St. in Adrian.

It is hosted by the Align Center for Workforce Development in partnership with the Tech Center and Michigan Works Southeast.

Careers in Motion is open to community members of all ages and is expected to have more than 30 vehicles on site, including military, heavy equipment, construction, agriculture and emergency response vehicles from employers throughout Lenawee County and surrounding areas.

Registration is not required, and there is no cost to attend. Refreshments will be available from various food trucks.

Children and students can learn about motion-related careers through guided, hands-on vehicle tours from company representatives, the release said. Job seekers can find out about job requirements and openings from participating company personnel.

“This sector provides many areas of employment individuals can start with only a diploma or certificate. Unfortunately, many of our students and job seekers don’t know about the options in these types of vocations,” said Sheila Blair, manager of the Align Center for Workforce Development. “Through this event, we aim to connect hiring companies to those looking for gainful employment in the region and expose students to potential options after graduation.”

By attending Careers in Motion, Blair said, companies will have the opportunity to network, recruit for open positions and gain brand recognition among those who live in the county.
