OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jan 2, 2014) - Department of National Defence

A member of Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Toronto was found dead while off-duty during a scheduled port visit of HMCS Toronto in Victoria, the capital city of the Seychelles, on January 2, 2014. The member was found dead in his hotel room at 12:15 p.m. local Seychelles time. His death was non-combat related.

• The name of the officer is Lieutenant (Navy) Andrew F. Webster based out of CFB Halifax, Nova-Scotia.

• The circumstances surrounding the death are unknown at this time although enemy action has been ruled out and foul play is not suspected. The Seychelles authorities are currently investigating the death and are in regular contact with the Canadian Military Police.
