Who Has Been Buying DBS Group Holdings Ltd (SGX:D05) Shares?

In This Article:

We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. On the other hand, we'd be remiss not to mention that insider sales have been known to precede tough periods for a business. So shareholders might well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in DBS Group Holdings Ltd (SGX:D05).

Do Insider Transactions Matter?

It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.

We don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But equally, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether. As Peter Lynch said, 'insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: they think the price will rise.'

DBS Group Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Non-Executive Independent Director Tse Ghow Lim made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for S$400k worth of shares at a price of S$24.97 each. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, at around the current price, which is S$25.47. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. Happily, the DBS Group Holdings insider decided to buy shares at close to current prices. Tse Ghow Lim was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.

Tse Ghow Lim bought 26000 shares over the last 12 months at an average price of S$25.57. The chart below shows insider transactions (by individuals) over the last year. If you want to know exactly who sold, for how much, and when, simply click on the graph below!

Insider Ownership of DBS Group Holdings

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 0.09% of DBS Group Holdings shares, worth about S$59m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
