New Business: Genesis dealership name stirs debate in Bedford; Patio 'Motor Court' no more

Oct. 25—A NEW GENESIS dealership planned for Bedford has some in town squabbling over its name which is linked to New Hampshire's largest city.

Genesis of Manchester plans to keep its name after moving to South River Road in Bedford. Some planning board members have been vocal about their distaste: Why not Genesis of Bedford? The name has been debated over the course of at least two different planning board meetings in the past year.

The dealership is part of AutoFair, but this will be its first standalone location.

Members asked about excluding "Bedford" from the name during a recent meeting.

"It is an existing business and the intent is to keep the name the same," said Nicholas Berndt, a representative for the owners.

"I think it being in Bedford it makes sense to be Genesis of Bedford," said member Logan Johnson.

The discussion brought out a little jest.

"Manchester-Boston Regional Genesis," one board member joked.

Last year, then-Chairman Charlie Fairman demanded the reps go back to the owners to replace Manchester in the name. I guess it didn't work.

The Genesis would be located next to the MINI of Bedford dealership. The site is off of the F.E. Everett Turnpike.

Plans call for a 32,100-square-foot sales and service building, according to the application. One feature will be a Zen garden with a small fountain and spherical stones.

A new name

For some, a "motor court" means nostalgia; others don't even know what it means. This gave the new owners of The Patio Motor Court in Twin Mountain some pause. They wanted the business to thrive, but also maintain its history.

"After months of ownership and explaining to family, friends, and the community about what we were, it became clear that the term 'motor court' was not as well known as it might have been in the past," a Facebook post reads.

The new name is The Patio Cabins. The business is home to rustic year-round cabins with a pool open in the summer.

"The iconic name of The Patio was something we could never leave, but we wanted to be up front about what we were at the same time, thus adding 'Cabins' felt right. "Not only are we now operating under a new name, we've updated our branding, website, and booking engine."

Aroma Joe's growth

Two new Aroma Joe's coffee shops are coming to Nashua as part of a continued expansion across the state.

One is a 180-square-foot walk-up location inside the Hannaford Supermarket at 175 Coliseum Ave. This is Rob and Tracy Hanson's seventh Aroma Joe's opened in less than a decade.
