BURGER KING McLAMORE(SM) FOUNDATION RAISES RECORD-BREAKING $275,000 DURING 12TH ANNUAL GOLF INVITATIONAL
Attendees Support BURGER KING(SM) Scholars Program at Event in Atlantic City
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - June 27, 2014 - The 12th Annual Jim McLamore Golf Invitational presented by the BURGER KING McLAMORE(SM) Foundation raised more than $275,000 this year for the BURGER KING(SM) Scholars program, a record-breaking amount. In honor of BURGER KING® co-founder Jim McLamore, the event is a three-day golf, food and fun fête where franchisees, vendors and supporters of the Foundation get together to promote education.
The Invitational kicked off with an intimate dinner for supporters. Held in Atlantic City, Monday night was a celebration of success for the BURGER KING(SM) Scholars program and a tribute to BURGER KING® first lady Nancy McLamore and her grandson Tucker McCormack. The following day, the event welcomed 74 golfers from around the country to the Galloway National Golf Club in Galloway Township, NJ, where they spent two beautiful days teeing off in the name of higher education.
Steve Lewis, president of U.S. Restaurants, Inc., a BURGER KING® franchisee, and co-chairman of the BURGER KING McLAMORE(SM) Foundation`s Board of Directors, has hosted the event since its inception in 2002.
"This Invitational was created in memory of Jim McLamore and two of his greatest passions, golf and education," Mr. Lewis said. "Twelve years later, I am honored to continue to play a special part in our brand`s flagship program, which impacts the future of so many students year after year... I know Jim would be proud."
Generous supporters of the event included Burger King Corp. executives, system franchisees and vendors from coast-to-coast. Long-time sponsors of the program include The Coca-Cola Company, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, and Heinz Foodservice, among others.
Since 2000, the BURGER KING(SM) Scholars program has helped more than 22,000 students pursue a higher education by granting more than $22.6 million in scholarships.
