Not every basketball coach has earned more than 900 wins, coached Olympic gold-medalists, and has been kicked out for throwing a chair across the court over his decades-long career. Those moments belong to Basketball Hall of Famer and former Texas Tech's men's basketball coach Bob Knight.
In honor of the coach, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum has released two new bobbleheads - one of Knight in a red sweater, and the other recognizing the notable chair-throwing moment. The bobbleheads, produced in conjunction with Knight Legacy, are limited-editions and available for pre-order online at store.bobbleheadhall.com.
"We’re thrilled to be honoring my father’s legacy with these limited edition bobbleheads in collaboration with the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum," said Pat Knight, Bob Knight's son and the founder of Knight Legacy. "I think these bobbleheads are a great tribute to my dad’s legacy and the passion that he had for basketball and life."
The sweater bobblehead shows Knight wearing a red sweater and dark pants, and a facsimile of his autograph is on the base. The other bobblehead has Knight in a red and white striped short-sleeved shirt, similar to what he wore in the Indiana vs Purdue game on Feb. 23, 1985. This game was when Knight threw a chair across the Assembly Hall court in objection to a call.
"We’re excited to team up with Knight Legacy to create these bobbleheads celebrating the legendary coach,” said Phil Sklar, National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO. “One of the most successful coaches in the history of college basketball, and we think fans will love these new bobbleheads!”
The sweater bobblehead is $30, the chair bobblehead is $40, and people could buy the set for $65. They are expected to start shipping in December.
