Big June caps 3rd year of record casino wins in Nevada and on the Las Vegas Strip

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The hottest June on record in Las Vegas provided an appropriate end to another record for Nevada casinos — a $15.7 billion haul for the 12 months ending on June 30.

Figures provided by the Nevada Control Board on Wednesday show the Las Vegas Strip had its eighth-best month ever in June, taking $758.6 million from gamblers, and fueling a 6.1% increase on the Strip for the fiscal year (July 2023-June 2024). Statewide, the $15.7 billion win was 4.3% higher than the previous fiscal year.

“Gaming win has set all-time records in three consecutive fiscal years,” according to Michael Lawton, senior economic analyst for the Control Board. “This year’s total was an increase of 4.4% or $659.1 million over fiscal year 2023 (FY23), which increased 3.3% over fiscal year 2022.”

Lawton said the Strip also established a record for the fiscal year.

“The Las Vegas Strip’s gaming win of $9.1 billion increased 6.1% or $519.8 million in FY24 after increasing 4.8% in FY23,” he said. “This year’s total also represents an all-time record for the Strip, beating the previous record of $8.5 billion set last year.”

The Strip continues to be the engine for Nevada’s tourism-based economy, and the primary driver for the statewide gaming win.

“The Strip accounted for 57.4% of total statewide win, up from 56.5% last year,” Lawton said.

“Excluding the Las Vegas Strip, statewide gaming win increased $139.3 million or 2.1%. The Strip accounted for 78.9% of the statewide increase this FY,” he said.

With The Mirage closing its doors in July, the Strip is making a transition. Between The Mirage and Tropicana Las Vegas, the Strip lost about 4,100 hotel rooms. Fontainebleau Las Vegas opened in December, bringing 3,644 new rooms and suites. When Hard Rock International opens in 2027, the renovated Mirage towers will re-inject room inventory.

“We look forward to the re-opening and re-branding of the property in 2027,” Lawton said. “Meanwhile, my assumption is that a portion of gaming activity, live entertainment and room nights will be absorbed by similar mid-tier properties currently operating on the Las Vegas Strip or other markets in Clark County.”
