India’s Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been awarded a contract to develop the 800MW Ukai supercritical thermal power plant (Unit 7) in Gujarat.
The contract has been awarded by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation (GSECL) via an international competitive bidding process.
The thermal power plant will be built on the existing ash disposal area located in Tapi district, Gujarat.
BHEL will be responsible for the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the plant, all under an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreement.
BHEL will also undertake all associated civil, structural and electrical work, and provide advanced emission control systems.
This order continues BHEL’s long-standing association with the Ukai power station, where it installed with the first thermal unit at the site in 1976.
The latest contract further strengthens this ongoing partnership.
As one of India's major power equipment manufacturers, BHEL has more than 170,000MW of power capacity installed there.
The company is expected to play an important role in supporting the country’s energy security.
In November 2024, BHEL secured a contract from NTPC to build the main plant package for three units of the 800MW Telangana stage II thermal power project.
The company was responsible for the design, engineering, manufacturing, commissioning and civil construction of the plant.
The company already received a limited notice to proceed from NTPC to begin basic engineering for the main plant package.
"BHEL to build supercritical 800MW thermal project in Gujarat, India" was originally created and published by Power Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
