Berks Latino Chamber of Commerce announces 2024 award winners

The Berks County Latino Chamber of Commerce has announced its list of award winners to be honored at the organization’s annual gala fundraiser.

The awards celebrate the exceptional achievements and contributions of businesses and leaders in the Latino and greater community.

The Latino Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit group founded in 2003 to offer leadership and support for the Latino business community in greater Reading and Berks.

Award winners are chosen by the chamber’s board of directors and span a variety of categories acknowledging outstanding efforts in leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation, lifetime achievement and more.

In a press release, the Latino Chamber provided this year’s list of nominees and their reasons for nomination:

• Business of the Year Award: Janneth Lopez, Little Hands, Curious Minds Childcare LLC

Janneth Lopez has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to early childhood education through her business. Her dedication to providing quality child care services has earned her this prestigious recognition.

• Innovative Business Award: Mia Funt, founder and owner of ByHeart Baby Formula

Mia Funt’s groundbreaking work in the baby formula industry through ByHeart has set new standards for innovation and quality. Her relentless pursuit of excellence has positively impacted families nationwide.

• Community Legacy Award: Larry Berringer, executive director of Berks Community Action Program (BCAP)

Larry Berringer’s unwavering commitment to community service and development through his leadership at BCAP has left an indelible mark on Berks County. His efforts have empowered countless individuals and families.

• Lifetime Achievement Award: Dr. Susan Looney, president of Reading Area Community College (RACC)

Dr. Susan Looney’s distinguished career in education and her transformative leadership at RACC have significantly advanced educational opportunities in our community. Her lifetime of dedication to education and community service is truly commendable.

• Small Business of the Year Award: Katiria Melendez, owner of Canvas Expressions

Katiria Melendez’s entrepreneurial spirit and creativity have propelled Canvas Expressions to great success. Her business serves as an inspiring example of innovation and excellence in the small business sector.

• Business Leadership Award: Alan Shuman, owner of Shuman Development Group
