Beaver Water District announces solar park project

LOWELL, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Beaver Water District announced May 15 it will be building a 4.99-megawatt solar park near Lowell.

According to a press release, the solar park will be built on 32 acres of land owned by the district.

The release says the project will provide around 15-20% of the electricity needed by the district’s nearby water treatment plant.

NextEra Energy Resources designed and secured permits for the facility and will build the project under a build-transfer agreement with the district. When the project is finished, the district says it will own the facility.

“This project aligns with the District’s strategic goals and sustainability policy to enhance operational resilience and promote sustainable practices, which will benefit both the environment and ratepayers,” said Lane Crider, CEO of the District. “It will not only provide clean, renewable energy to our electricity supply, but will also give us cost certainty on this portion of our electricity needs, which will provide protection from rising wholesale electricity costs and price volatility. We couldn’t be more excited to be working with NextEra Energy Resources to bring these long-term financial and environmental benefits to our customers here in Northwest Arkansas.”

Construction of the project is planned to start later in May. A completion date is expected for late 2025.
