Barclays Comments On Tesla Motor Inc's Ability to Meet Delivery Guidance

In a note dated September 17, Barclays provided insight into the implications of Tesla Motors Inc's (NASDAQ: TSLA) second-quarter deliveries results.

The firm noted Tesla beat its expectations for deliveries to Asia, but underperformed for expectations in North America. This, along with expectations that North American deliveries in the third and fourth quarters will be below that of 2013, suggests that Tesla's North American delivery pace has "plateaued."

Looking at the Asian market, Barclays believes the company will need to experience "hockey stick growth" in the region, primarily China, to achieve its fourth-quarter deliveries guidance.

To this point, the firm commented, "We believe that concerns over the hockey stick growth could pose a challenge to the stock at some point in the fourth quarter."
