BAM has broken ground on the new Post Primary School project, with a floor area of approximately 11,000m², located on a 4.6-ha site, for Greystones Community College in Wicklow, Republic of Ireland.

This project in Greystones is part of the UK Department of Education's design-and-build programme and aims to address the needs of the school's expanding student population.

The construction includes more than 50 classrooms and facilities for students with additional educational needs.

The new school will also feature a car parking and drop-off area, boundary fence, ball courts, and areas for both hard and soft play.

Additionally, the design incorporates a sensory garden and landscaping with sustainable drainage systems surface water attenuation.

These features are part of BAM's commitment to sustainability.

BAM has proposed the use of soil stabilisation beneath raft slab foundations, thereby reducing the need to excavate and transport soil.

Furthermore, BAM plans to use a precast concrete frame for the main structure, employing modern methods of construction to meet the tight project timeline.

The school is scheduled to open in late 2025.

BAM Ireland regional managing director Luke Gibbons said: “BAM is delighted to be working on this important project, which will deliver a top-class space for learning for generations of Wicklow students to come. The sustainability agenda of this project aligns very well with BAM’s own strategic objectives of building a sustainable tomorrow and enhancing the lives of the people we touch with our projects.

“We look forward to working collaboratively with the college on this vital project for the Wicklow region and to supporting the Department of Education in the delivery of its ambitious design-and-build programme.’

This news comes after Royal BAM Group reported adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation of €126m ($139.04m) in the first half of 2024.
