HOLLAND TWP. — After a decade, EcoBuns is leaving Holland Town Center.

The baby store, which launched as an online-only retailer of cloth diapers in 2009, has a long history in Holland. Its first brick-and-mortar location opened on Lakewood Boulevard in 2010.

In 2013, mother-daughter team Vicki Hughes and Marissa Berghorst purchased the company and expanded the product line to include nursery essentials, clothing and toys.

"We have loved being in Holland Town Center for the last decade," Berghorst told The Sentinel. "But over COVID, we saw a lot of neighbors have to close for various reasons, and this opportunity with a higher visibility space came up — the timing worked out really well, as we're losing neighbors here."

EcoBuns will move into the former Authentiek's space in Lakeway Plaza, 11975 E. Lakewood Blvd. The business will neighbor V.I. Pets.

"V.I. Pets is celebrating a long-term business in Holland," Berghorst said. "We were very intentional in wanting to plant roots and stay established for a long time, so it's a nice transition to move next to businesses that are well-established."

Though families often enjoy visiting the ducks in the pond at Holland Town Center before popping into EcoBuns, Berghorst promises the fun will continue.

"We know you can't see the ducks," she said. "Instead, you can come hold puppies and kittens and see a bearded dragon, right next door."

EcoBuns will begin moving Sunday, July 31, and remain closed Monday-Tuesday, Aug. 1-2, with plans to reopen Wednesday or Thursday, Aug. 3-4.

"The community outpouring of love as we've been slowly telling people, it's been amazing," Berghorst said. "The move is scary, because you want your customers to be able to find you, and I think we're so blessed to have such good customers."

The business is the latest in a string to leave the Town Center, including the closure of Gap Outlet in 2020 and the relocations of Outlaw Roasted Corn and B2 Outlets to Cedar Village Mall earlier this summer.

"I wish the Town Center the best," Berghorst said. "This was just the right move for us."
