AXA XL, a division of global insurer AXA, has named Jon Tellekamp as its new chief underwriting officer for construction and energy.

Tellekamp will head AXA XL’s combined construction and energy underwriting and risk engineering teams in the commercial space and report to the company’s head of large commercial Donna Nadeau.

Prior to AXA XL, Tellekamp has an around 20-year stint at Liberty Mutual.

He was latterly the senior vice president and head of excess casualty for major accounts at Liberty Mutual, managing excess casualty insurance offerings for the company’s largest clients.

Before that, he oversaw Liberty’s US excess casualty construction and energy segment.

Commenting on the appointment, Nadeau said: “Both construction and energy industries face similar risks, including project delays, safety hazards, and environmental challenges. This is exactly what drove us to combine these teams to allow for a more integrated approach to risk management and insurance solutions.

“We’ve already seen impressive success with these underwriting teams working together, and now, under Jon’s leadership and with his combined Construction and Energy industry experience, we look forward to seeing even more.”

Last month, AXA XL provided $30m cover to facilitate a conservation debt swap for the Government of the Bahamas.

This initiative is part of AXA XL’s Political Risk, Credit & Bond team's efforts to provide credit insurance protection to Bahamas.

AXA XL offers insurance and risk management products and services, catering to mid-sized companies as well as multinationals. The company also offers reinsurance solutions to insurance companies worldwide.
