Athens Chamber of Commerce announces leadership transition

The Athens Chamber of Commerce announces that Executive Director Kristin Willingham has accepted a position at the East Texas Arboretum and will be stepping down from her role at the Chamber, effective February 17, 2025.

Since joining the Chamber in 2021, Kristin has been a driving force in strengthening our business community, expanding membership, and fostering connections that have greatly benefited Athens. The Chamber is deeply grateful for her dedication and leadership over the past four years and wishes her the very best in this next chapter.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as Executive Director of the Athens Chamber of Commerce for the past four years. We have seen exponential growth and support from our membership as well as the entire community, and I will forever cherish the time I spent directing the Chamber,” said Willingham. “As I make the transition to the East Texas Arboretum, I look forward to continuing to work with the Chamber as an Ambassador and serving our community. I am excited to apply my parks and recreation experience as well as the nonprofit knowledge and relationships procured with the Chamber of Commerce to showcase the beautiful gem we have in Athens.”

As the Chamber moves forward, Board Chairman Jennifer Browning will step in as Interim Director to ensure a smooth transition and the process to hire a new Executive Director will begin in March.

“Kristin has been a tremendous leader for the Chamber, and we are grateful for the lasting impact she has made on our business community. As we move forward, our focus remains on supporting our members, fostering growth, and ensuring a smooth transition for the Chamber’s next chapter,” said Browning.
