Arizona and West Midlands Fires Show Hazards Faced by Firefighters Every Day, Says FBU

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwired - Jul 1, 2013) - In response to substantial fires in both Arizona and the West Midlands, Fire Brigades Union General Secretary, Matt Wrack, said:

"The Fire Brigades Union and its members are very sad to hear about the deaths of at least 19 firefighters in Arizona. This appears to be the worst incident for firefighters' loss of life since 9/11.

"There is a strong sense of solidarity between firefighters across the world. Our thoughts are with the families and colleagues of those who were willing to risk their lives to save others.

"Wildfires in the US southwest and the largest ever blaze in the UK's West Midlands highlight the hazards firefighters face every day, here and across the world."

Wrack will visit the site of the fire tomorrow to meet officials. To arrange an interview please contact the press office on the details below.
