Arizona and Colorado voters support higher minimum wages

Voters in Arizona, Colorado, Washington and Maine are poised to approve an increased minimum wage, according to NBC News projections.

In Arizona , residents voted on Tuesday to pass Proposition 206, raising the hourly wage floor from $8.05 to $12 by 2020, with incremental increases along the way. The measure also includes some level of paid sick leave.

Similarly, Colorado voters supported an increase from $8.31 to $12 in 2020, starting with an initial raise in 2017.

The federal minimum wage remains $7.25, but voters are demanding more and taking it to the ballot box.

An initiative in Washington lifts the wage floor from $9.47 to $13.50 by 2020 and mandates that employers offer paid sick leave. In Maine, voters approved an increase to $12 by 2020 from $7.50 today, according to NBC News.
