AkzoNobel scores coatings success at Confederations Cup

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS--(Marketwired - Jun 12, 2013) - AkzoNobel has supplied high performance coatings systems for half of the stadiums being used at this month's FIFA Confederations Cup football tournament in Brazil.

Being staged from June 15 to 30, the three stadiums to feature the company's coatings are the famous Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro, the Estádio Nacional in Brasília (which will host the opening ceremony) and the Arena Pernambuco in Recife.

Used to protect steel structures (seats and rooftops) and walls, AkzoNobel supplied protective and powder products for the three venues via its International Paint, Interpon and Coral brands.

"As a global paint and coatings supplier with a broad portfolio of highly specialized products, AkzoNobel is ideally suited to meet the requirements and specifications of almost any customer," said Jaap de Jong, AkzoNobel's Country Director for Latin America.

"Brazil is one of our high growth markets and we are proud to have combined our global scale and local know-how in order to provide integrated solutions to some of the key stadiums that will be used during the Confederations Cup."

AkzoNobel has a long track record of providing full paint and coatings solutions for large infrastructure projects around the world, including top sporting arenas. These include the Bird's Nest Stadium and Water Cube in Beijing, China; Soccer City in Johannesburg, South Africa; both of the main football stadiums in Manchester, UK; and the Yas Marina Circuit grand prix venue in Abu Dhabi.

AkzoNobel currently employs more than 2,800 people in Brazil, with 2012 revenue totaling EUR987 million. The majority of revenue is generated from local production.
